Revising my business plan: Rehash or redo?
In Module 7, Alex advised us to review our plans and, based on our results to this point, determine how to revise them.
In my case, there was an urgent reason to do so: my original plan has not worked. Going through my notes, I see that the way I stated it was such that it was not results-oriented. The actions I considered were rather focused on implementing the tools of the trade. For instance, I said “Set up Google Analytics on your blog” but there was no indication on what I would be getting from GA…
In order to come up with a better approach this time, I consulted my ever-increasing library of e-books to find the following list of basics for a sound business plan:
- Know your target market Here, perhaps, is the main reason for my dismal results: not having identified an audience with a specific need.
- Have a product or service to sell to that market In addition to the profit pulling platforms given by Alex, creating my own e-book is essential to the growth of my business. Choosing the subject for my e-book would be much easier if I knew who my potential audience would be. Alex himself has given (actually, reminded me of) a hint: “Write about your own progress; write about what you have learned”.
- Determine your advertising budget So far I have used free methods only, but how about the time I have invested? Shouldn’t I be willing to pay for advertising?
- Determine your overall expense budget Well, it’s all been expenses until today. I have an idea: beyond determining how much to spend in a weekly or monthly basis, I will factor in the results the projected business growth; for instance, I could say: “I’ll spend XX dollars per month to get YY more persons into my list”. That would mean another step toward accountability.
- Have a realistic income projection That should be easy, considering anything above $0.00 would do! I’ve been attending Rob Canyon’s Double Click Blueprint webinars and I’ve figured out a target income to start, at least for the end of the month: $100 by October 31st.
- Decide on your marketing strategy I’ve been given the formula: Give out good content for free, build your list, then email market to it.
- Determine your production strategy (consider outsourcing) This is in regard to the product or service in item 2. Being a first for me, I’d like to make it myself.
- Make a unique selling proposition My marketing proposition must present a specific benefit and it must be unique (not my words, I got them from Wikipedia…) My blog and personal broadcast messages should help with the ‘unique’ side; the ‘specific benefit’ will keep me thinking for a while.
To answer the question that titles this post: It has to be a redo!

Jose,
This is a great step-by-step of what you need to do to stay on track with your business. I really liked being able to read it and refocus on what I need to do, not only today, but next week and next month. -Norene

Hi Norene, great that you stopped by my blog!
After all that wording I posted I landed onto a purposely simple set of actions that now make my business plan. I wanted those actions to be specific and doable; I hope that’s what they will turn out to be. I posted them on the MWA Forum, along the great ones of the other students, you among them.
Cheers,
Jose
Hi Jose,
Good post on refocusing or revising your business plan.
I’ll be revising my plan of action too. Getting in too many directions at once is not good and while I can’t focus on just one thing for days for now, I’ll be devising a plan where I’ll focus on one thing at a time.
Multitasking and getting distracted is still what I need to eliminate.
Setting a goal with a time limit for everything is the way to go and I’ll start with it tomorrow.
No, I’m not postponing it, it’s just that its getting late and I need to get some rest.
Reading your post helped me to cement my above resolve.

Vance, my friend, good to see you!
I am also pushing forward doing several things at once but with the firm intention to weed out the non-productive ones.
It’s been great talking to you over Skype!

Jose,
Great post. And a great #5…
Alex makes a good point, and that is to review our plans. Honestly, I do this about 20 times a day.
I’m pretty sure he does as well. And when we say review we
really mean review and adjust, to help achieve our goals.
Keep pressing on… you can do it.

I added a link to your blog to #5, so I think you’ll like it even better now.
Been to your blog myself and asked for a ticket to your newest webinar, thanks!

Peter, welcome!
And just as you put it in one of your latest posts, we’ve got to make our squeeze pages unique to us, even if the backend product isn’t. That’s quotable!

P.S. How do you pronounce “Phwllheli”?
In welsh everything is phonetic so POO-LL(you would have to hear it)-HELL-EE – welsh does not have any latin in it, its a 1st nation celtic language that was used prior to the Romans.
Translated tt means Salt Pool as the town was originally reclaimed from the sea as a salt mining town some 800 years ago

Now that’s interesting, Peter!
Thanks for the explanation,

Hi Jose,
I was wondering how you’re doing so I came over to your blog.
I notice some great changes and I see that you have the top commentators. But it only shows one at a time. I was hoping to see more there including, most selfishly, myself.
Anyway I have mine set to 1 year so that people don’t lose their credit after a week or a month and currently show 8 including you. It would be nice if you could adjust that.
I’d be interested to know how you made that link clickable with this theme because I know of at least 2 other Alex’s students who don’t know how to do that even though they are very very smart.
I don’t use this theme but have had plenty of problems with other themes.
I look forward to talking to you on skype again.

Hiya Vance! Welcome again!
Thank you for your observation. I set up the duration to a year and now more commentators show… and you’re tops, thanks!
As for how to make the individual commentator links clickable, I just chose Yes on the ‘Hyperlink each name?’ item in the widget setup. It’s the ninth item from the bottom.
Since our conversation the other day I’ve been working on other changes to my blog, to improve search engine friendliness. I’ve done mostly reading so far. I have a little more to do of that and then I would like to discuss what I have with you. Maybe next week, if that’s OK with you.
Regards,
Jose
Hi Jose,
Great to see you improving your blog and working on your SEO.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge about this theme.
I will pass on the way you made the top commentators links clickable to those who couldn’t make it work.
Next week should be fine to have a chat.

I just emailed this post to myself for further action. In some ways it is so simple. You just have to take action.
